Create a Standing Room Only Event

 Speakers

Organizing a conference, meeting or industry event comes with a variety of challenges.

One of the biggest is getting a high enough attendance that results in financial success, delighting your vendors and filling your room with positive energy. Here are a few tips we have found over the years that will help maximize attendance.Time Sensitive

When you schedule your event, take the time to see what else is happening within your industry. In today’s economy, attendees may have to choose between one or the other if too close. Ensure your success by scheduling your event without competing with other industry events.

Value Added

The price of the event is always one of the big determining factors, but instead of discounting your pricing, add value to the fee. Consider complimentary pre-event webinars to build a desire to hear your speakers or see vendor products.

Tag Team Marketing

I know, I just told you to avoid other industry events but the other thing that can work is partner with an event that complements yours so attendees can double the benefits. Each demographic has multiple needs so finding a way to help them with more than your specific niche will make your event more appealing. Some great partnering would be combining your event with an industry trade show or conference that addresses other needs of your attendees. Consider even co-sponsoring your event with a complementary event to help each of you increase attendance. This might include discounts on packages such as Buy One, get the Second for X% off.

Marketing

A well-planned and diverse marketing program is critical. With today’s world of social media, this can actually be less expensive but it needs to be a consistent reaching out to your potential attendees without crossing that line of too much. Giveaways and contests that encourage people to visit your “page” and spread the news of your event are always successful. Conventional advertising in trade journals along with press releases will help to round out your marketing strategy.

Kindred Spirit Marketing

Ask (no, demand) that your speakers, vendors and other support people do all they can to promote you to their own database.

Video. Video. Did I mention Video?

We are a “show me” world anymore so get your board, speakers and vendors to create mini-videos to share with your demographic. I am not suggesting commercials but 2-3 minute clips sharing a tip or two that will create interest. Make them fun, informative and always include a call to action. Post them on social media, You Tube, websites and more.

Prior and Post Education

Make that flight ticket price worthwhile by allowing attendees to maximize their time at your event. Education is a critical component of success in any business so help them maximize thier learning opportunities.

Special Events

Great time for a press conference announcing new products or perhaps there is an author in your field who might be delighted to do a book signing at your event. This becomes a win-win for both parties.

Good luck with your event and remember, request a speaker from The Decorating and Staging Academy to further ensure your success.
