Mirror, Mirror on the Wall.

I loved Cheryl Cousins post about mirrors over mantels and what they reflect.  I decided to review photos from  my recent classes and found example after example of mirrors over fireplaces and not one of them reflected anything pretty.  The key is typically you will be viewing the mirror from a seated position in a space,  so you are looking up at it.

Mirror Before

This completely changes what the mirror will reflect. If you can see the ceiling fan when looking straight on, just think what you will see when you are seated. In this picture you see the mirror reflects the ceiling, the fan and the harsh light. In the after photo, we used art objects to create a pleasing composition. What do you think?

Mirror Mirror on the Wall; It’s Decorator Magic!

Before

For the past few months, I’ve been working with a client who has been a sheer delight…  Ready for change and happy to be “finally” moving forward with her decorating plans, the very first project was an interior redesign of her living room. As you can see from the before photograph, this room included a lovely fireplace with a not so lovely fixed mirror, courtesy of the builder.

Now, I can totally appreciate a well placed mirror, but as is often the case, it usually ends up reflecting the one thing that you least want to see, i.e., the ceiling, a ceiling fan or the kitchen pots and pans.  Once the one day decorating makeover was finished, we simply painted the mirror. It’s true what they say about watching paint dry! While it took 5 coats of the wall color for maximum coverage, the end result is truly the fairest of them all.

After

Yes, it’s definitely decorator magic;  the mirror disappears right before your very eyes… anything can happen in the DECO Zone!

Paint.  Patience. Perfection.

Be Inspired!
